If someone were to ask you what you think the "Next Gen" of electronics are, what would you answer? The Hot and stunning games being produced by xbox 360 and ps3, having cellphones with HD vidoe quality? your answers might be something like that but what if i were to tell you that the next gen would include you interacting in a room of a virtual reality wolrd with people in it, and you would be controlling this all with your brain? You'd probably say that im crazy and that such a thing won't even be started for another many years. But you couldn't be more wrong, Many people have created the beginings of what will become the image that i just put in your head
The above image is that of a guy playing a video game using his mind as the controller!, their are many other groups who are seeking the same results as the ones in this article. Although the primary goal is to help disabled people to use their brain to control objects that they couldn't otherwise (artificial arms and legs are to use this technology once their research is complete) the creators of this technology is excited to see the many different possibilities for their research. This type of "Mind Control" is done by inserting a small chip on the brain of the user which picks up the brain waves of the user allowing it to send the message to what ever he or she is controlling. One might say that they wouldnt be willing to get surjery on their brain to use this technology, but this technology is thought to be able to be used without the chip in the near future
Gabriel Slate looks at a helio display that projects an image on thin air!, actually its condensed air to be exact, although its not necessarily a hologram it can be well on its way to be one of the biggest techinichal advances from thes gen to next gen. The most exciting part of this product has to be the fact that it is interactive, as seen on the video to the right.
"Heliodisplay images are not holographic although they are free-space, employing a rear projection system in which images are captured onto a nearly invisible plane of transformed air. What the viewer sees is floating mid-air image or video. These projected images and video are two-dimensional, (i.e. planar) but appear 3D since there is no physical depth reference. While conventional displays have the benefit of being attached to a physical substrate, Heliodisplay projections are suspended in air, so you will notice some waviness to the quality of the projections."
The Keyboard of the Future
the keyboards of the future project an image of a keyboard onto a surface and uses motion detection to recieve input.
The keyboard of the future was even shown in the popular Mtv show "Pimp My Ride" the keyboard was run the same way as this keyboard, in the future it is beleived that everyone will be sporting this new technology
